Austrian tourism companies are happy: the number of bookings has already increased by 5.4 percent compared to the previous year, and the city destinations are also very busy on New Year’s Eve this year.
The winter season has started very well with 5.15 million overnight stays so far. Compared to 2022, this is an increase of 5.4 percent.
Early snow boosted bookings
And the early snowfall at the beginning also “many times increased bookings for the holiday. The states report a very good situation for the Christmas holidays,” says State Secretary for Tourism Susanne Kraus-Winkler.
City tourism is also expected to boom on New Year’s Eve. The winter recently brought a huge turnover of 12.6 billion euros for local companies. For the full year 2023, Kraus-Winkler expects approximately 150 million overnight stays, which would be only slightly below the top result of 2019.
