The best-known cryptocurrency started the year with a bang, helped by optimism about the possible approval of Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds: Bitcoin rose above $45,000 on Tuesday for the first time since April 2022.
The digital currency hit a 21-month high of $45,488. Last year, the cryptocurrency had already risen 154 percent, achieving its strongest performance since 2020.
However, Bitcoin is still far from the all-time high of $69,000 that the cryptocurrency reached in November 2021. Ether, the coin linked to the Ethereum blockchain network, rose one percent to $2,376 on Tuesday.
