The one-month downward trend is now over: inflation rose again to 5.6 percent in December
After a continuous decline, inflation rose slightly again at the end of the year. According to a flash estimate from Statistics Austria, inflation rose to 5.6 percent in December compared to the same month last year. In November, annual price inflation was still 5.3 percent. Compared to the previous month of November, the price level has probably increased by 0.4 percent.
“Electricity in particular, which became cheaper in December a year ago due to the brake on electricity prices, no longer has a price dampening effect compared to the previous year,” Statistics Austria said in a press release on Friday. “In addition, fuel prices dampened inflation significantly less than in previous months.”
