As it became known, after Sven Hergovich moved to the top of the SPÖ Lower Austria, his replacement in the AMS management was a political issue. Ultimately, his deputy Sandra Kern (ÖVP) advanced. In an interview with the “Krone” she now looks back – and also forward.
“Kron”:Madam Director Kern, what is your personal assessment of the past year?
Sandra Kern: When I took over as state manager, my motto was to reduce long-term unemployment by 30 percent compared to the previous year. Our team managed this impressively with a loss of 33 percent. I am very proud of this achievement! Despite rising unemployment rates across Austria, the increase in unemployment in Lower Austria has slowed. The continued demand for labor from the economy and the intensive job placement work of the AMS team were crucial. The unemployment rate in Lower Austria is expected to be 5.9 percent, which is unchanged from 2022. In Austria as a whole this is 6.4 percent.
