Frankfurt affected – recall forces Lufthansa to take a break in Linz

Date:

Bad news for those responsible at Linz Airport and especially for business travelers who appreciate and use the connection to Frankfurt. Because Lufthansa is temporarily missing planes due to a recall, there will be no more flights to Frankfurt from March 31. A feverish search is underway for a replacement.

In January 2023, Linz Airport fought in vain for Eurowings to continue its flights to Düsseldorf and was finally able to present a solution with the Italian airline SkyAlps, which has been flying to the German city since the end of October 2023.

But what happens now with the Frankfurt connection? On March 30, Air Dolomiti will connect Hörsching to the German banking metropolis for the last time for the German airline. The reason is an engine recall, which in turn is leading to the thinning of the Lufthansa fleet. That is why the Air Dolomiti jets are needed on other connections.

“Intensive discussions with various airlines”
What will happen to the Frankfurt connection from Linz after March 30? Everything is currently open. “Lufthansa is currently in intensive discussions with several airlines to reconnect the Frankfurt feeder route as quickly as possible,” said airport director Norbert Draskovits.

The mayor of Linz, Klaus Luger, as chairman of the supervisory board of Linz Airport, calls for the connection to be restored as quickly as possible: “In the federal states, the Lufthansa Group has a monopoly position when it comes to network connections. But it also has a responsibility towards the states.”
