The vice president of the Hoteliers’ Association (ÖHV), Alexander Ipp, expects an average price increase of “about 10 percent” for hotel accommodation this year. Costs for hoteliers have risen sharply, for example for energy and food, Ipp said Friday evening in “ZiB 2”.
The lack of staff is also a major problem in domestic tourism. Gastronomy and hotel industry are urgently looking for thousands of workers for the summer season. According to the Labor Market Service, the sector was missing more than 15,000 employees in April.
“Making working hours more attractive”
“The number of unreported cases is many times higher,” said ÖHV’s vice president. In tourism, the aim is to make working hours more ‘attractive’. “The four-day week could be a tried and true remedy. This is an exciting topic,” says Ipp. Instead of shared services with a long break, continuous services are also conceivable. He would like to see ‘better preconditions’ from politicians.
