Next bang around Kika/Leiner! As announced on Tuesday, the furniture chain outsources part of its logistics to JCL Logistics Austria. As a result, 67 of the area’s 431 lanes are now shaky.
The shrinking course of the furniture chain continues. The intention is for JCL to take over the fleet and parts of the warehouse logistics in March.
JCL wants to take over some of the employees
As a result, 67 of the total 431 employees in this region would be laid off, the furniture retailer said. Some of these employees will be taken over by the logistics company JCL. The two logistics locations in St. Pölten and Vösendorf will remain in the company, the company said.
As of January 1, 2024, the furniture company employed 1,867 people in its 17 furniture stores, logistics locations, restaurants and central administration.
Filed for bankruptcy last year
Shortly after real estate group Signa sold the operational Kika/Leiner activities to Austrian trading manager and investor Hermann Wieser, the furniture chain filed for bankruptcy in mid-June 2023. The Graz Supernova Group bought the furniture store’s premises. As part of the bankruptcy proceedings, a total of 23 of the 40 branches were closed at the end of July and more than 1,600 jobs were cut.
