Wien Energie made a healthy profit last year. But for now, only district heating customers will benefit from this. We have all the numbers and why Wien Energie continues to be criticized.
The energy market was turbulent last year. This plunged energy companies across Europe into bankruptcy or on the verge of insolvency. In Vienna, Wien Energie needed several hundred million euros from the city to deposit the securities on the stock exchange. Almost all of the city’s liquid assets were used for this.
The money has now been repaid including interest. The Federal Court of Audit and the City Auditor’s Office check whether everything was super clean. The political processing takes place in the U-Commission. The fact is: despite everything, Wien Energie has achieved high profits (see Facts & Figures). And now many Viennese, who have been struggling with high energy costs for months, are of course wondering: why do I pay such an enormously high electricity and gas bill and why is Wien Energie filling the pockets?
