Accused Wirecard manager Oliver Bellenhaus is released after more than three and a half years. The Munich Regional Court suspended the arrest warrant and ordered his release, a court spokesman said on Tuesday.
The 50-year-old former governor of Dubai’s payment processor is expected to leave the Munich-Stadelheim penitentiary on Tuesday. Bellenhaus is considered a key witness in the trial surrounding Wirecard’s bankruptcy.
Declared himself to the bankruptcy authorities
He turned himself in to authorities shortly after the bankruptcy in June 2020 and admitted that much of Wirecard’s Asian activities were practically fabricated – which then-CEO Markus Braun denies.
Bellenhaus must surrender his passport
The spokesperson said the reason for the release was the long prison sentence, his confession and his attempts to make amends for the damage. However, Bellenhaus must regularly surrender his passport and report it to the police.
