After problems with debit card payments, consumers will soon be able to make cashless purchases everywhere at the German discounter Aldi Nord, according to the company. Card payments will “be possible again in all markets in the short term,” an Aldi Nord spokesperson said Monday.
Payment devices with the problems would be replaced by new models. “Some of the stores have already been converted over the weekend, the rest will follow in the coming days.” The card terminals were to be gradually replaced this year anyway and that has now been accelerated.
Netto has already exchanged devices
Discounter Netto has also converted the terminals and reported completion on Monday. The company announced that debit card payments are again possible throughout the branch network.
In recent days, customers at a number of German retailers were no longer able to pay with a giro or credit card. The background was a glitch in the widespread Verifone device H5000. It is used by the service provider Payone, among others.
