German minister: – Putin ‘cannot hold out much longer’

Date:

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) is convinced that the EU sanctions against Russia are effective, the time factor works against the attacker on Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin may still be able to supply the military with domestic products such as oil or wheat, but Habeck says the country’s economy is collapsing dramatically.

“He won’t last much longer,” said the green politician on Thursday in the budget debate in the Bundestag. The sanctions prevent Putin from buying any more of the oil or gas revenues.

‘Time works against Russia’
“There are no security updates for the plane, as a result the plane will soon be grounded.” Trade with neutral or even pro-Russian countries is also falling sharply. “Time doesn’t work for Russia, it works against Russia.”

It is shameful that Germany is still buying Russian energy. But the German economy and the German population still have a significant share of the pressure on Russia. You carry this over the high energy prices.

Sanctions not “ineffective” are they?
Habeck thus withstands the criticism of some other politicians, who recently labeled the punitive measures as meaningless. Croatian President Zoran Milanovic only said on Thursday that the sanctions “will not work”. Ultimately, “European citizens” would pay the price.

Only on Monday did EU countries agree on what is now the sixth sanctions package. The most important part is limiting oil imports by about 75 percent.
