Diesel was about the previous day’s level. According to the traffic club, both fuels were too expensive. “There is clearly not enough for the consumer,” said a spokesperson. “Development is going in the wrong direction.”

The chairman of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), Marcel Fratzscher, spoke out in favor of an end to the tax relief that has been in effect for three months from Wednesday until the end of August. Many had predicted that the fuel price brake would be counterproductive and mainly end up in the pockets of the oil companies, the economist wrote on Twitter on Saturday: “What if politicians admit their mistake and immediately stop the fuel price brake?”
In concrete terms, Super E10 on Saturday at 9.50 am, according to the ADAC, cost an average of 1,960 euros per liter nationwide. That was 1.6 cents more than 24 hours earlier. Diesel costs 2,001 euros per liter – this corresponds to the value of the period of the previous day. Given the development, the ADAC also expected a further increase in the daily average price for E10 for Saturday compared to the day before. However, the daily average prices tend to be lower than the 9:50 am readings as fuel gets cheaper towards the evening.
Prices had already risen on Thursday and Friday. On a national daily average on Friday, the E10 cost 1,921 euros per liter, diesel 1,969 euros. E10 was 26.1 cents cheaper than the day before the tax cut, diesel 7.5 cents. Both are well below the level of the tax cut, resulting in a reduction of 35.2 cents per liter for E10 and 16.7 cents for diesel.
