Possible brake problems – Mercedes recalls nearly a million cars worldwide

Date:

Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly a million older vehicles worldwide due to possible braking problems. Accordingly, ML, GL and R class cars built between 2004 and 2015 will be affected, as the Federal Motor Transport Authority announced on Saturday. Germany is probably good for almost 70,000 cars.

In the worst case, corrosion on the brake booster can cause the connection between the brake pedal and the brake system to be broken. “As a result, the service brake fails,” the Federal Office reported.

On Saturday, the manufacturer said on request in Stuttgart that the brake booster in the affected cars could no longer function properly due to corrosion at the housing connections – this resulted in a review of individual cases.

Owners are requested not to use vehicles
The reduced brake booster “may be accompanied by perceptible hissing or flowing noises when the brakes are applied”. Mercedes confirmed the information provided by the office that in extreme cases it would no longer be possible to brake the vehicle with the service brake. According to reports, the inspection of the cars will start immediately. Until the test, however, affected owners are asked not to use their vehicles.

In mid-May, Mercedes-Benz announced a recall in the US for braking problems in as many as 292,000 ML, GL and R-Class cars from the 2006 to 2012 model years.
