Even though unemployment rates have risen recently, the battle for qualified specialists continues to rage. Hairdressing chain Klipp therefore increased wages to make the profession in salons more attractive. A step that has already paid off. The training courses are also improved.
Why do many people love the profession of hairdresser and stylist, but do not choose this profession? “It’s often because of the salary,” says Klipp director Gottfried Kraft.
The Thalheim-based hairdressing chain has responded and increased employee salaries by as much as 18% last year, and apprentice wages have even risen by as much as 40 percent.
“This is already starting to pay off; we had a lot of registrations this year,” Kraft said. The company currently trains just over 160 apprentices – “we invest not only in the salary, but also in the quality of the training,” says the 56-year-old.
Invested in training app
Founder Ewald Lanzl established his own internal academy many years ago, which guides students step-by-step until the final exam. There is now extra support for young people by investing in a training app.
In addition to the technical training, Klipp started his own social fitness program. “There are various workshops – from growing into a team, to dealing with demanding customers to resilience,” says Kraft, who sees this as a completion of the offer.
“Calculate efficiently in the interest of the customer”
How did wage increases affect salon prices? Kraft says: “If I pay neatly and well, this should be reflected in the price. Our rents are also rising and energy is becoming more expensive. We calculate efficiently with the customer in mind.”
