Sold to the community – The house of Pope’s parents will be a tourist attraction

Date:

Paus Leo XIV’s house in a suburb of Chicago must be converted into a tourist attraction. The owner of the house sold it to the municipality for $ 375,000 (equal to 320,800 euros) (see video above).

As American media reported, the parents of the Pontifex bought the building in 1949 and sold it again in 1996. The new owner, who only took over last year, has renovated it extensively and sold the Dolton community in the US state of Illinois. With the equivalent of 320,800 euros, this had to pay considerably more than the old owner (the equivalent of more than 51,000 euros). Until June 18 there was time to offer the parents of Pope Leo XIV’s parents.

It is not known how long he lived in the red brick house. In any case, the Pontifex spent part of his childhood. The house in the suburbs has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The community is now planning to make a kind of historic site for visitors. Burton S. Odelson, lawyer Van Dolton, said that the Archdiocese of Chicago and other authorities should work together to make this possible. “We don’t want it to be a controversy. We want it to be a holy place.”

The inconspicuous house with one family, which is about 70 square meters in size, had become the coveted building after the performance of Pope Leo XIV. Originally it had to be auctioned, but the community even threatened an expropriation procedure and justified this with the public interest. Tourists must be lured to the Chicago area with the historic site.
