René Benko’s mother-in-law spoke publicly about her son-in-law and said that he had become a megalomaniac. “An assessment that does not seem far-fetched given Benko’s exorbitant lifestyle and his involvement in the real estate and retail sectors,” says Rainer Fleckl, investigative journalist “Krone” at the studio krone.tv.
As is known, Benko is the subject of investigations and scrutiny. What shadows do his political connections cast? In particular, the investigative journalist ‘Krone’ emphasized the opaque financial structure that Benko had built up over the years.
With more than 1,000 companies around the world and a variety of foundations, including those with his mother as a beneficiary, Benko apparently sought to protect his assets. But the events of the past few months could break this protective barrier, according to Fleckl.
Fleckl also referred to the Signa Group’s lack of transparency and concealment tactics. “Investors and the public were left in the dark as Benko implemented his plans.”
“Wealth that is presented for him”
Flying short distances on an oversized private jet, a Ferrari collection and glamorous summer parties. Benko’s penchant for luxury was clearly visible, and while other wealthy people often acted more discreetly, Benko seemed to enjoy showing off his wealth.
“He was very outspoken about it, something really rich people usually don’t do. Didi Mateschitz would never have done that, I know that…” said Fleckl.
