Logistics center built – Amazon.de is looking for thousands of employees in Erfurt

Online retail giant Amazon wants to create 2,000 jobs in the German city of Erfurt by the end of the year. The people will work in a new logistics center in the Stotternheim district, which was put into use on Monday, the company announced.

This week, 300 people are expected to have their first working day there and a total of more than 1,000 contracts have already been concluded.

In the future, the building, which covers an area the size of approximately nine football fields, will stock 26 million smaller items. According to Amazon, it is one of the company’s largest logistics locations in Germany. A three-figure sum of one million was invested. In Thuringia, Amazon already operates a distribution center in Erfurt with almost 300 employees and a logistics center in Gera with around 2,500 employees.

The chairman of the Thuringia Central Labor Office, Irena Michel, said of the settlement: “The creation of numerous jobs with easy access and the opportunity for unskilled people to find work is a great success for our region.”
