In the first quarter of 2024, significantly more private individuals and companies changed electricity and gas providers. Between January and March there were 92,354 households and companies, regulator E-Control announced on Wednesday.
Most (73,906 customers) were looking for a new electricity supplier, with people in Lower Austria most willing to change. In the field of gas, significantly fewer customers (18,448) switched suppliers, especially in Styria.
“New offers cheaper than they have been for a long time”
“Changing suppliers can be particularly interesting at this time. “We see, especially for new customers, very attractive offers that are cheaper than they have been for a long time,” says E-Control board member Wolfgang Urbantschitsch in a press release. The authority offers an online fare calculator. By switching, an average household can save around 2,000 euros this year, including discounts for new customers.
In addition, E-Control advises that households better monitor their energy consumption and make it more efficient. In winter, less heating was required due to the high temperatures, and at the same time the need for cooling increased in the summer months.
