If desired, the postman can also come to the waiting room from July. The Post speaks of an “absolute innovation on the market”. However, if you want to use the convenient delivery method, you will have to invest in a special lock.
Austrian Post will start regular delivery operations next month; Trial operations have been ongoing since 2021. The technology partner is Nuki. In a first step, Swiss Post will activate 200 users who have already registered, and more customers will be added continuously.
“Post and Nuki’s frontroom delivery is an absolute market innovation that has never progressed beyond the pilot phase in Europe,” says Peter Umundum, Director of Parcel & Logistics at the partially state-listed Post AG.
Door opens via app
Martin Pansy, founder and boss of Nuki Home Solutions, describes how front room delivery works as follows: During delivery, the front door or apartment door is equipped with a Nuki smart lock. Authorization to open the apartment is granted via the app and the delivery person unlocks the door with his mobile device and places the package on his own doormat. After leaving the apartment it is locked again.
Conditions for participation are a minimum age of 18 years, a delivery address in Austria and the compatibility of the door lock with the Nuki Smart Lock. Registration is now possible. Users must pay a one-off fee of 289 euros for the hardware – unless they already have one. The Post Office promises that the front room delivery option is always free.
Packages are also collected
But the postmen not only deliver, they also collect. “As part of the front office delivery, the post office also offers the extension of the collection service to a desired location in your own front room. Users can place return labels or package stamps on their packages and direct the post office to pick them up,” the post office said. The packages must be placed on the special doormat so that the delivery people know which shipments need to be picked up.
