The recovery from the corona pandemic and higher ticket prices have given airlines around the world more profits in 2023 than before the crisis. For this year, the International Aviation Association IATA predicts a further increase in the sector to approximately 30.5 billion dollars (28.1 billion euros). That would be almost five billion more than predicted in December.
Last year, the airlines made an estimated profit of $27.4 billion, the association announced on Monday at its general meeting in Dubai. That is a billion more than before the pandemic in 2019.
Airlines in North America are expected to account for about half of global profits by 2024. The IATA forecasts a profit of $14.8 billion, the same as in 2023. Europe’s airlines are likely to increase their profits from the last $8.6 to $9 billion.
