General circumstances and a lack of childcare options force women to work fewer hours. The “Krone” carried out a fact check and spoke to those involved.
“The fact that the part-time rate among women has risen again should worry us. Because women do not work part-time voluntarily, but because there is no national childcare that is compatible with full-time work and there are fewer and fewer full-time jobs,” emphasizes ÖGB Vice President and Women’s Chair Korinna Schumann regarding the figures on part-time work recently published by Statistics Austria . Accordingly, the part-time rate among working women rose by almost one percentage point to 51.6 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period last year. Among men it rose by 0.7 percentage points to 13.8 percent.
