According to a newspaper report, Facebook parent company Meta is investigating the deployment of employees under outgoing CEO Sheryl Sandberg. Lawyers were also reviewing work reportedly done by Meta employees for Sandberg’s Lean In Foundation, the Wall Street Journal reported. It also covers tasks related to the publication of Sandberg’s second book.
The investigation spans events of several years and has been running since at least the autumn of 2021. Several employees were questioned. Sandberg and Meta were not immediately available for comment.
Surprising departure after 14 years
In early June, Sandberg surprisingly announced that he wanted to retire in the fall after 14 years in office. The manager, who was previously responsible for day-to-day business, explained that she now wanted to focus on her foundation, among other things. She wants to keep her seat on the meta board of directors.
Along with company founder Mark Zuckerberg, Sandberg is one of the best-known faces of the world’s largest Internet network. The Harvard graduate has long been considered Zuckerberg’s right-hand man. The 52-year-old also made a name for himself as an author: her best-selling books “Lean In: Women and the Will to Success” and “Option B: How we can tack through resilience and find joy in life.”
