The government’s anti-inflation package is being received very differently. Some applaud, others sharply criticize: many question whether all this can be financed. Reason enough to ask Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP): Is it affordable?
In any case, Brunner considers the size of the huge payments affordable. The Finance Minister calmly said: “We have planned and calculated the whole anti-inflation package very thoroughly, which has taken it a little longer. But the numbers show: yes, it is affordable.”
We have planned the project until 2026”
And Brunner added, “We had the project planned through 2026 — the government debt-to-GDP ratio will increase from 80 percent this year by one percentage point with this additional spending, and with the budget deficit, our ratio will increase from the current 3.1 to four percent. In However, by 2026 we will go back below 3 percent, so we will definitely meet the set criteria.”
The relief in detail:
Brunner: Graduated Plan for the Relief Funds
The Finance Minister is optimistic about the effect of the anti-inflation package: “We have a three-step plan. In the summer there is already a housing cost compensation of 300 euros and the higher child benefit, in the second phase there is a super bonus of 500 euros with the climate bonus and inflation, and in the third phase structural measures such as the abolition of cold progress will follow. The latter is incidentally an event of the century.”
As a result, the tax progression is constantly defused, two-thirds of government spending has to be automatically adjusted in this way and a third can be prioritized, as in Germany.
This package is large, but it is important that the economy continues to thrive. Brunner: “We see how positive it is on the labor market, there is an urgent need for skilled workers. Above all, we want to maintain this momentum in the industry.
