Moscow has blacklisted 49 British citizens. Among them are 29 journalists and 20 military representatives. The sanctions are justified by “false and one-sided information” or the assistance with arms supplies to Ukraine.
“British journalists on the list are involved in the deliberate dissemination of false and biased information about Russia and the events in Ukraine and Donbass,” the foreign ministry said in Moscow on Tuesday. Those sanctioned include BBC Director-General Tim Davie and journalists from The Guardian and Financial Times. Editors of the Times, The Guardian, Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph newspapers were also affected, as were radio and television presenters.
‘Involved in decisions about arms supplies’
In addition, the Kremlin imposes sanctions on representatives of the British army. “People associated with the British defense complex are involved in decisions about the supply of arms to Ukraine,” the Foreign Office said. Twenty people will be sanctioned in this area, including the head of the Royal British Air Force. In April, Russia banned 287 British MPs from entering the country for supporting Ukraine. Earlier it hit British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other members of the government.
Great Britain supports Ukraine
Britain has been a major supporter of Ukraine since the beginning of the war. Examples are the information regularly published by the British Secret Service and numerous deliveries of weapons such as air defense systems. Relations between London and Moscow have long been tense, partly due to Russian poisoning attacks on Russian exiles in Britain. London has been attracting Russian oligarchs for years in anticipation of Western sanctions.
