Between Werfen and Tenneck (Salzburg), a man was rescued from the Salzach by water rescue and the fire brigade on Sunday afternoon. The man had previously fled from Bavarian state police, abandoned his stolen car near Tenneck, rammed a police vehicle and fled on foot.
To escape the police at the last minute, the man jumped into the icy Salzach to reach the other bank.
Pulled unconscious from the water
The water rescue and fire brigades found him after a search, removed him unconscious from the cold water and took him to a sandbank. There they immediately started resuscitation measures.
The man was resuscitated and flown by rescue helicopter to the accident hospital in Salzburg.
Major operation after search
A total of 35 water rescue workers, 50 firefighters, the Red Cross with vehicles and helicopters and the police were present.
