“The Smurfs and Germany have something in common. The Smurfs are blue and so is Germany!” A video with this text published on social media led to a police operation at a high school in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which has now become a political issue.
The Minister of the Interior of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Christian Pegel, had to answer questions about the operation in the state parliament at the end of February. The management of Richard Wossidlo High School in the city of Waren alerted the police to two TikTok posts. According to media reports, there was “content relevant to state security”. However, this suspicion would not have been confirmed on site; the police did not find any criminally relevant parts of the post advertising the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany.

Nevertheless, the author, a 16-year-old student, was taken out of her classroom during class – for an “informational conversation of a preventive nature,” as the police explained in a broadcast. The AfD is shocked by the “completely disproportionate” process. The student was taken away like a criminal. “The anti-right hysteria is now reaching unbearable proportions,” AfD MP Leif-Erik Holm said in an interview with the German Press Agency. In an X-Posting he demanded consequences.
In this context, the Ministry of Education of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern referred to the “Administrative Regulations for Dealing with Emergency Situations in Public Schools”. This provides that in the event of “special incidents”, the police will be warned to further coordinate the procedure.
