Rising prices, but falling revenues! Slaughterhouse operator Herbert Handlbauer is considering closing his doors. 400 employees would be affected. Closing the company would also have huge consequences for farmers. The entrepreneur accuses a company that disposes of meat waste of abusing its dominant market position.
Herbert Handlbauer has done good business in the past with his slaughterhouses spread across Upper Austria: the company, which has branches in Linz, Wels and Ried im Traunkreis, employs 400 people (of whom 250 are regular customers) and has an annual turnover of 250 million euros. Cattle and pigs are slaughtered in the slaughterhouses and then dismantled. However, it is now threatened with closure.
