Offer expanded – delivery service will also bring food for animals in the future

Date:

The food delivery company Foodora Austria also wants to provide food for dogs and cats in the future – the range is to be expanded next year. Technical matters, such as a lost mobile phone cable, should also be able to be ordered via the delivery service.

The new CEO of Foodora Austria, Alexander Gaied, announced on Tuesday that the offer will be expanded to include technical articles and pet food. For the technology sector, they are in talks with a “well-known Austrian technology supplier”, but are still silent about the details.

However, there are restrictions on technology items: on Sundays, the lost and reordered mobile phone charging cable will not be delivered with the pizza. Delivery will depend on the normal opening hours of the stores.

Even large technical devices such as washing machines are spared from the lugging of some 3,000 messengers, because these are technical items that can be carried by one person. When exactly and to what extent Foodora will bring the two divisions on the road has not yet been determined, says Gaied.

Almost every second Austrian orders food once a month
“Arrived in the middle of society” is the company’s hobbyhorse: food delivery. According to a survey commissioned by Foodora, 44.2 percent of Austrians order a meal via the delivery service at least once a month. The share of those who are not yet used to it is almost as large: 19 percent say they order less often than per quarter and another 21.6 percent say they “never” have food delivered. According to the survey, 23.2 percent save themselves a trip to the supermarket at least once a month by ordering groceries at home.

Messengers get more pay
Food delivery companies have been in the news a lot lately, especially with strikes. One of the reasons for this was the ongoing collective labor agreement negotiations. Since August, Foodora has been paying 5.8 percent more to self-employed workers and drivers who work under a collective labor agreement without an agreement with the union. Competitor Lieferando announced an increase of 7.8 percent compared to September. The employee representatives maintained their demand for an increase of 8.7 percent. Gaied wanted a “compromise” in this regard, which for him would mean “a deal for several years.”

Before becoming Managing Director, Alexander Gaied was responsible for the operational activities of Foodora Austria since the end of 2021. He succeeds Herbert Haas, who held this position for two years.
