According to insiders, the AI group OpenAI has raised $6.6 billion from investors. This would value the Microsoft partner at $157 billion, people familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday. The software company known for its generative artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT is one of the most valuable private companies in the world.
OpenAI is on track to generate $3.6 billion in revenue this year, amid mounting losses of more than $5 billion, sources also said. By 2025, sales are forecast to increase to $11.6 billion.
Fresh money from Microsoft and Nvidia
According to the information, in addition to venture capitalists such as Thrive Capital and Khosla Ventures, OpenAI’s largest backer Microsoft also participated in the financing. The new addition is the AI chip manufacturer Nvidia.
Other names mentioned included Altimeter Capital, Fidelity, SoftBank and Abu Dhabi state-backed investment firm MGX. However, Apple did not participate in the financing after negotiations. There was initially no statement from the iPhone manufacturer.
