According to official information, the massive emigration of Russian IT specialists after the start of the war against Ukraine has led to a serious shortage of skilled workers in the country. Russia now hopes for skilled workers from abroad.
“Experts estimate the demand at about 170,000, with a total of about a million people in the industry,” Russian Deputy Interior Minister Igor Zubov said during a session of the Federation Council, Russia’s upper house.
In the session broadcast on social networks, Zubov referred to Western sanctions as the cause of the exodus. The migration of specialists to some countries has been “significant,” the top official admitted. To fill the gap, Zubov asked the Federation Council to support a legislative initiative that would make it easier for foreign IT specialists to obtain residence permits in Russia.
