Heat pumps and pellet heating systems replaced many oil-powered solutions. More and more people are relying on photovoltaic systems to generate their own electricity – on roofs, on balconies or even in the garden. This boom also increases the demand for insurance. You can read what is required for this here.
The fear of a blackout, high subsidies and the energy transition to green energy sources fuel the demand for private photovoltaic systems, which are preferably installed on the roofs of houses.
But what about protection here? Hail, storm and indirect lightning damage can disable the solar panels. Animal bites can pose a threat to systems close to the ground.
Insuring yourself in the event of an emergency has been standard practice in Germany for years. “We have an online product there with which we are very successful,” reveals Kathrin Kühtreiber-Leitner, CEO of Oberösterreichische Versicherung. The insurer has been active in the photovoltaic sector in Germany since the early 2000s. Kühtreib-Leitner speaks of a “pioneer role”.
What requirements must be met to take out insurance? The photovoltaic system must be installed by an authorized company. If you install it yourself, whether complete or partial, the system must be approved by a licensed company, including a test report. In large systems, parts of the system also need checking.
