After the almost simultaneous dismissal of five ENT doctors in Mistelbach, the upcoming farewell of eight gynecology doctors in Wiener Neustadt and the upcoming austerity measures in the state clinics in Lower Austria, there is also a fire on the roof in Amstetten.
According to information from “Krone”, seven doctors in the internal medicine department alone have resigned in the past six months. The Amstettner SPÖ also received a call for help from numerous employees. “You pointed out the unbearable working conditions and the danger of patient care,” says councilor for Public Health Beate Hochstrasser with concern.
“A huge risk”
Doctors who have not yet been fully trained in emergency medicine are left to fend for themselves. “This obviously entails a huge risk. Such decisions, which are apparently taken under pressure from the state health service, are irresponsible,” Hochstrasser said. Moreover, the overtime burden is described as “unbearably high”. “More and more doctors and nurses are leaving the hospital. We can no longer stand by and watch,” the politician said.
“Hit this location harder…”
The LGA emphasizes that the burden of acute cases is particularly high in a priority facility such as Amstetten. “Therefore, the shortage of skilled healthcare workers is hitting this location harder. We know that the workload is perceived as high,” says a spokeswoman, who announces measures to better distribute the workload. But doctors in training “will of course be supervised by specialists,” the report continues.
