The Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati Desmosedici GP23) surprised by its performance as it was the first reference of the MotoGP category in the Thai Grand Prix which will be held at the Buriram circuit.
One of the first innovations was the presence of the Spaniard Pedro ‘Tiburón’ Acosta (Gas Gas RC 16), which received ‘fit’ to compete on the first day of training in Buriram, after Australia’s sharp fallalthough at the end of the day he had to ‘endorse’ his good physical condition with a new medical check-up.
And Acosta didn’t disappoint, well In the first change he put the second in the time tablethree tenths behind his countryman and world leader, Jorge Martinwho clocked 1:31.356 – still far off his personal best and track record, 1:29.287 -, just moments after being overtaken by several drivers such as his championship rival ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia.
For others too like the Spanish Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia RS-GP), the session did not start well, as get off at turn twelveone of the fastest on the track and had to be treated by the circuit’s medical aid, who took him off the track on a stretcher.
With little discomfort and a noticeable depression, Aleix Espargaró returned to his workshop, but ended his participation in the round.
Like Martin, Bagnaia did not last long as a category referenceovertaken by his compatriot Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati Desmosedici GP23), who twice lowered the session’s best time to 1:30.492, with more than 35 minutes remaining and in what was his first time out on the track all pilots , who almost simultaneously made their first stop at the workshops.
The Bezzecchi Record This is 38 thousandths of a second faster than Jorge Martínthen second, with Bagnaia third two tenths of a second away and behind them Marc Márquez (Ducati Desmosedici GP23), three tenths of a second behind.
Now on its second outing on the track and after a few launching laps, Jorge Martín started to set some fast lap partials below Bezzecchi’s time, but it can’t be beat.
Martín completed a few laps in those conditions, with a few fractions below the fastest lap of the session, but for one reason or another he eventually fell short of Bezzecchi’s record, and In the final ‘time attack’ for one reason or another he failed in his fast lap attempts in some of the sectors of the Thai route.
In the end Nobody can beat Marco Bezzecchi’s record for his first attack, 1.2 seconds from the best time in the category, held by Jorge Martín himself from last year.
After Bezzecchi they were finished Martín, Bagnaia, Marc Márquez, Alex Márquez, Enea Bastianini, Pedro Acosta, Jack Miller, Takaaki Nakagami and Fabio Quartararo, who were the top ten finishers of the session.
