The Matildas They will join their male counterparts in receiving commercial and match payments rather than centralized contracts under the terms of a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) announced on Wednesday. Football Australia (FA) said the four-year deal would improve the revenue-sharing model adopted under the last collective agreement. “It was an unparalleled international success” for both national teams.
The Matildas won the nation’s hearts with their progress to the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup on home soil in August, while the Socceroos reached the last 16 in Qatar last year.
“The new collective agreement represents a very good economic model that rewards our players along with the growth and commercial success of our national teams,” FA chief executive James Johnson explained in a statement. “It’s a model that ensures that as we reach new commercial heights, our players will share in the fruits of these successes.”
“This agreement is more than a contract, it’s a commitment to development and a commitment that as our revenue base grows, so do the opportunities and rewards for our players.”
Australian players will receive enhanced payments in a scaled-down revenue-sharing model aimed at rewarding success, with 70% in match fees and 30% in an annual commercial payment.
The Matildas will receive the same treatment as the Socceroos in the build-up to matches, including the option of single rooms at all training camps and business class flights around the world.
