Handels-KV – Works councils threaten disruptions on Black Friday

Date:

The collective labor agreement negotiations for approximately 430,000 commercial employees will enter their fourth round on Thursday. If no agreement is reached, disruptive actions will take place on Black Friday in a week, the works council announced.

Saturday, November 30 is also affected. “Be surprised,” said the chairman of the GPA trade sector, Martin Müllauer, in Vienna on Wednesday. The GPA union is calling for an agreement above the rolling inflation rate of 3.8 percent. “If you want employees to spend more money again, they need the certainty that their real income will rise.”

Approximate salary for internship
So far, negotiators have only gotten closer when it comes to student wages. These should increase from the current 880 to 1000 euros in the first year of the training. Approximately 15,000 apprentices work in retail throughout Austria.

For other workers, employers have so far offered a salary increase of 3.1 percent for 2025 and half a percent above inflation for 2026 – but only if the relevant inflation is below two percent. The union rejects this and considers the offer offered to be too low. All forecasts predict an inflation rate of well above two percent for the coming year.

They want an increase of 4.3 percent for next year. There should also be more free time after a few years of service. One point this time is payment for the first hour and a half of overtime per day. This overtime is currently free.
