Employees in Germany spend more than a fifth of their working time on bureaucracy. This is evident from a survey among managers of the ifo Institute. Respondents criticize this as a “significant staff effort required to meet ever-new legal requirements.”
Competitiveness and entrepreneurial freedom are also burdened by bureaucracy and “companies’ investment decisions are influenced”. According to the 450 managers surveyed, the time spent is mainly due to excessive reporting, information, documentation and reporting obligations. Legal regulations have become increasingly complex over the past ten years.
