Bad news for anyone hungry to travel: ticket prices for flights are likely to rise significantly.
“Arrival and departure in Germany are becoming significantly more expensive,” the chairman of the Federal Association of the German Aviation Industry (BDL), Jens Bischof, explained to the newspapers of media group Funke. The aviation tax, which has been higher since May, has already been priced in. But from January, the price cap for security checks at airports will increase from 10 to 15 euros per passenger.
Higher costs for air traffic control
There is also the possibility of a significant increase in air traffic control costs. “The airlines themselves can only pass the burden on to their customers. Margins are already low. On average, an airline only earns five to ten euros per passenger,” said Bischof, also CEO of Eurowings airline.
“We are talking to politicians about the cost-saving effects,” he said. The incoming federal government must abolish the aviation tax without replacing it. In addition, the national solo approach to e-kerosene quotas should be ended and the higher fees for security checks should be withdrawn.
