In March, Pierer Mobility AG announced that it would early acquire the majority in MV Agusta – now the marriage of the motorcycle brands appears to be over. In the course of the insolvency proceedings and the tough battle for the future of the Mattighofen company, they will probably want to get rid of the shares in the Italians.
The relationship between KTM AG and MV Agusta was initially characterized by gentle restraint, but quickly developed into an intensive relationship.
In September 2022, the Mattighofen-based company took over distribution of MV Agusta for the US, Canada and Mexico, and two months later KTM AG acquired 25.1% of the luxury brand. In October 2023, Pierer Mobility AG announced that it wanted to acquire the majority of Italians in the spring of 2026, which subsequently happened in March 2024. Hubert Trunkenpolz, former board member of Pierer Mobility, became the boss of MV Agusta because, as Stefan Pierer put it, “things need to be cleaned up there.”
Nine months later, the love seems to have cooled. Although the motorcycle manufacturer from Upper Austria still owns the 50.1%, it now apparently wants to get rid of it in order to make the restructuring at KTM a reality.
Open letter from MV Agusta to customers
A few days ago, MV Agusta itself wrote an open letter to its customers and fans. Message: We are currently working on an organizational structure that will ensure that MV Agusta can continue to grow. All motorcycles are produced in Varese/Italy. The spare parts for the machines are located in logistics centers in Austria, North America and Japan.
