Nearly 300,000 people are currently looking for a job in Austria. Exactly 227,743 people are registered as unemployed, 69,643 are in training. “This means that unemployment has fallen by 1097 people compared to the previous week,” Labor Minister Martin Kocher said on Tuesday. Pre-registrations for short-time working have also fallen; 28,038 people are currently in this labor market measure.
The OECD’s GDP indicator showed growth of 4.4 percent for the previous week, a slight slowdown from previously forecasted economic growth.
Almost every third Ukrainian refugee is an academic
The minister also gave figures on the labor integration of Ukrainians: at the end of May, 6,850 were registered with the AMS and were therefore looking for a job in Austria. What is striking here is the high proportion of people with an academic education, which is almost a third (31 percent).
34 percent has completed compulsory education, twelve percent has completed higher education, six percent has completed an apprenticeship and three percent has completed secondary education. The remaining 15 percent of those fleeing Ukraine could not be definitively assigned to a level of education due to a lack of sufficient information.
