110 employees – Magna Powertrain: 200 employees must go

Date:

More than 40,000 employees work in Styria in the car industry. Now Magna Powertrain in Lannach has to deal with a serious blow in the Deutschlandsberg district: 200 employees and employees still have to go in May.

About 200 employees of the Magna Powertrain location in Lannach in West -Styria were reported in September of the previous year for job reductions. Now the dismissals are striking: “Not only are employees affected, but also surprisingly many employees. They have long periods, hence the longer period,” explains the styrics boss Karl-Heinz Snob on “Krone” question.

According to insiders from the industry, it can be assumed that other places should not only be canceled at the manufacturer of gearbox and drive systems. In the specific case, the reason is the still weakening economy and the less successful business with electric cars. Motors for Fiskers, for example, should have been made at Magna Powertrain, but the American e-car manufacturer was just as well known as bankrupt in 2024.

Foundation founded for 500 people
The working foundation that was launched in the fall can seize a total of 500 people and is now used by Magna Powertrain. “So far, around 100 affected people have only been introduced the” Regional Foundation Styria “, reports Snob. This is promoted by the state of Styria and AMS, with which the former employees must be called in and new training is financed.

In general, feedback from the domestic, but also the international car industry would still give little reason to hope, Snob: “Unfortunately we do not yet register relaxation, the light on the horizon cannot yet be seen in the car industry.”

However, the expert no longer believes in huge waves of termination, of which it was always mentioned in the Magna environment.
