Viktor Sigl, CEO of Pierer Mobilty AG, about a new shift model for production workers to be introduced from August, convinces Stefan Pierer and recruits at the neighboring Mahle factory in Mattighofen, which will close in 2024.
The factory in Mattighofen will close at the end of 2024, the employees of car supplier Mahle learned last week. Neighbor KTM, who wanted to make an offer to all 120 employees, responded quickly. Board member Viktor Sigl says that the first course has already been set.
“OÖ Krone”: Mr Sigl, the final end for Mahle in Mattighofen was hardly known when you started the personnel offensive. Did KTM just wait for this?
Victor Sigl:No, but Mahle himself approached us with the question whether we could help to offer the employees a future. So we were prepared.
And are there already people who accept the offer?
There are already employees who actively approach us. Others will sit it out there before looking around lest they lose their claims.
Despite the uncertainty brought about by the crisis, the lack of employees is ubiquitous. How’s KTM?
We are only looking for 100 employees. The situation remains challenging.
With a new shift model you want to use the capacities even better. What do you mean?
We are considering a four-day working week for employees, starting after the summer holidays. The four days of work are longer, but there are longer periods of free time.
How did you convince your boss Stefan Pierer, who is allergic to the four-day week?
He sees it critically when combined with a home office. We also have the option of working in the staff room on Fridays.
