Graz Airport recorded an increase in passenger numbers in 2024, but a decrease in freight traffic. 819,273 passengers used the airport for business or private travel, an increase of approximately 86,000. The weak economic situation is noticeable in the freight sector.
The increase in passenger numbers (plus 31 percent) was caused by charter traffic, Flughafen Betriebs GmbH announced on Tuesday. After the record year of 2023, there was an increase of approximately 6.5 percent in scheduled transport and a decrease of approximately 3.6 percent in freight transport in tonnes.
Optimism for the new year
Based on these figures and the flight data available so far for the summer flight schedule, Graz-Thalerhof expects another good development for 2025. Director Wolfgang Grimus saw the figures as evidence of a continued strong desire to travel in the private sector. At the same time, more and more foreign holidaymakers are coming to Styria by plane. Business travelers are still more cautious.
The 2025 summer program includes seven scheduled destinations: Berlin, Zurich and Düsseldorf (each five times a week), Frankfurt (27 times) and Munich (20 times), Hamburg (four times) and the central domestic hub Vienna (20 times).
New destinations in Turkey
The 16 holiday flight destinations include Antalya, Brač, Calvi in Corsica, Heraklion in Crete, Hurghada, Karpathos, Kefalonia, Corfu, Kos, Larnaca and Las Palmas/Gran Canaria (until the end of April and from the beginning of October). Palma de Mallorca can be reached directly from Graz as early as Easter and about 30 more departures are planned there than in 2024. New destinations for one-way flights include Dalaman in Turkey, Malta, Palermo, Paphos in Greece and the Latvian capital Riga.
