Car sales fall another 8% in June

Date:

The chip crisis and economic uncertainty continue to put pressure on the sector’s figures

It is the microchip crisis that continues to hit the sector hard. But also the economic uncertainty that has caused many consumers to postpone their purchasing decisions, which continues to weigh on the auto industry.

Notably, the auto market registered 89,252 passenger car units in June, down nearly 7.8% making up for the collapse of the cumulative figure for the first half of the year to nearly 11%, with sales of 407,757 units.

The data from the associations of manufacturers (Anfac), dealers (Faconauto) and sellers (Ganvam) do not invite optimism. Shipments in the individual channel were down 2% per month, at 35,551 units, although they grew 18.4% in the business channel, at 37,100 units. Rental car companies bought 16,601 vehicles in June, representing a remarkable 43.1% decline.

Between January and June, car deliveries in the private channel were 177,132 units, up 1.2%. Companies bought 171,590 units, 2.3% more, and rent a car registered 59,035 units, 48.3% less.

In rental, registrations last month were 28,793 units, which translates to a 9.7% decline in the year-on-year comparison, while between January and June, the channel’s decline was 12.6%, to 123,534 units.
