The Austrian state printing company has been an Austrian traditional company with a high international reputation for more than 220 years. During this time, however, not only the world has changed considerably, but also the work of state prints: what once started with simple passing and wax seals is an ultramodern special knowledge of analogue pressure with high security, digital identity apps and electronic identities developed.
Nowadays, around 250 employees work at the location of the state printing company in Vienna. Behind the highest safety measures and in a hermetically protected security area, the official ID documents of the Republic of Austria are produced and personalized. “For us, the security of personal data is always a top priority,” emphasizes Helmut Lackner, general manager of the Austrian state pressure. A central point: during production, the sensitive personal data of the citizens remain safe at all times in Germany. “Without his owner, his own passport will not travel anywhere!”
A fact that an invaluable benefit has proven, especially in the crises of recent years. Because during Covid Pandemic and the outbreak of the Russian War aggression in Ukraine, many delivery routes and travel routes failed, the Austrian state printing house caused a safe stock of very safe ID documents due to the independent production at the Vienna location.
“We produce and personalize as part of the critical infrastructure with the Austrian know -how on site in Vienna. With our work we actively contribute to the safety and independence of Austria, “emphasizes the OESD General Director. This also contributes positively to the many -controlled “resilience” of Austria, dwz independence and resistance in the case of a crisis.
Red-white-red pioneers
At the same time, the OESD group of companies is an international pioneer in the field of digital identities. Already in 2015 the company presented a first prototype for electronic identity and digital ID cards. Nowadays, the OESD group develops the “Efeiten” app with the digital driver’s license for the Republic of Austria. The Austrian special know -how is also being viewed internationally about safe identity. For more than 60 customers on five continents, the OESD group has already implemented identity projects and digital ID solutions. “We are also internationally successful from our location in Austria,” said Lackner.
The special knowledge of in -house over high -proof printing will also be passed on to the next generation. “We train our students in different areas, from a high security pressure to IT security,” the general director is proud of the transfer of knowledge to the next generation.
While many companies emigrate to cheap countries, the OESD ensures that jobs and added value in Germany. “We have always believed in Austria and our business location and keep doing this!”, Consult Lackner. This enables the citizens of Austria to trust safe travel passes and digital ID cards from the Austrian state pressure and “made in Austria”.
