East-West figures-bound prices: In Tyrol, refueling is particularly expensive

Date:

The prices on the domestic gas stations noticeable at the beginning of 2025. According to ÖAMTC, a clear East-West gradient can still be seen in Austria. Accordingly, you must dig deep into your pocket for refueling in Tyrol.

The petrol price in January in Austria was an average of 1,571 euros and therefore 6.3 cents higher than in December 2024. Diesel cost an average of 1.609 euros in January (plus 6.2 cents). “These price increases are considerably above three cents per liter, which can be justified by increasing the CO₂ price during the beginning of the year,” the ÖAMTC emphasizes.

The cause of the price increase
The Mobility Club sees the cause in the raised oil price. “Especially in the mid -January, the level also increased the prices on the gas pumps in the short term to the previous high levels of 1,619 at Super and 1,659 at Diesel. At the end of the month, this surcharge has put something into perspective, so that you can charge your batteries a little cheaper since the beginning of February, ”the ÖAMTC calculated in a broadcast.

Clear East-West Gradient
Currently – from 4 February – the median prices would be 1,586 (super) and 1,612 euros (diesel). In Austria there is still a strong East-West gradient. In Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Salzburg, prices would usually be above Austria’s average.

Even more expensive on motorways
It is most expensive to refuel along the highways. “There, the maximum prices in the middle of the January 2 rose from 2,099 to even 2,129 euros and – in contrast to the average prices – also at this level.”
