AUA flight crew could go on strike next Holy Week. If the employer does not make a ‘serious offer’ during Friday, the union and the works council say they will determine the next steps. As reported, negotiations on a collective labor agreement (CBA) failed again on Thursday evening.
A strike hardly requires any lead time, Daniel Liebhart, chairman of vida’s aviation division, said on Friday. “All we have to do is press a button to inform the employees.” A works meeting, on the other hand, should first be organized by the works council. The AUAS on-board staff consists of approximately 3,500 employees.
Union: Offer covers inflation only
The association broke off negotiations on Thursday evening and is demanding a new offer. The current one only relates to inflation, it is not a real wage increase. Moreover, salaries would be significantly lower than those of the German parent company Lufthansa.
The airline has so far offered an increase of 18 percent and as much as 28 percent for copilots. The collective labor agreement should then apply until the end of 2025. That is not enough for the union. She wants salary increases of up to 40 percent and a validity period of only ten months. “Last year we would have made a loss,” the AUA said.
AUA: Can increase the bonus
The company also reported a bonus for employees: the airline paid out around 30 million euros this year, and employees would receive up to an extra monthly salary if they were economically successful. This bonus can be increased to two months’ salary in the future.
