Chairman Harald Mahrer appeals to the future government that the state must remain internationally oriented. He is based on a survey that shows that the Austrians in the EU do not want to be an outsider.
The international reputation is an important asset to the Austrians. According to a study, 92 percent of the Austrians believe that more than 1,000 respondents on behalf of the Economic Chamber of Austria believe that the reputation is important for international trade relationships.
For WKO President Harald Mahrer, the result is primarily a message to the future government between FPö and ÖVP: “Export is the lifeline of our economy. You should not play with our reputation on the international public prosecutor. Our export is aimed at the West, it must stay that way. Because there are our most important growth markets in the West – and that has always been the case.
Apparently a hidden referring to the Russian affinity of the FPö, which is over to end a rapid termination of the sanctions. The economic data shows that Russian tourists had left a lot of money in the country in recent years, but Russia was not of great relevance for export.
Of course the time of the survey by the Chamber of Commerce is not chosen by chance. Against the background: in Austria there are currently coalition negotiations underway, and in the US-the most important trading partner in Austria-threatening US President Donald Trump with punitive rates.
The research also shows that 88 percent are convinced that a good international image when exporting Austrian products will decide abroad. For 80 percent of the Austrians it is important that the representatives of the state are considered internationally. In other words, an outsider image rejected the citizens.
Mahrer confirms this statement in the assumption that the Austrians are internationally oriented and do not want an execution policy. “We cannot afford insulation,” Mahrer warns preventively. Does the FPö see that too?
Negotiators must now keep “cool heads”
However, the coalition is on the edge. Both parties are currently playing their muscles that should get the most important ministries in the new coalition. Mahrer appeals to the negotiators to “keep a cool head”.
The Sukkus of this survey is clear to the president of the Chamber of Commerce: Experiments with the good reputation of Austria are generally rejected in this country.
In a study about Krone. AT was convinced 64 percent of the almost more than 40,000 participants that the reputation of Austria suffers from the current political chaos.
