Equal Pay Day – Women have worked for free so far in 2025

Date:

This is unfair: according to calculations, women earn 40 percent less than men. If children are involved, the scissors continue to differ. Then men earn almost twice. The difference is so great that women should work more 44 days a year to earn the same.

Regardless of whether children or not: women are paid less at work than men. The current calculations of the Momentum Institute have shown that the wage differences make up on average 40 percent. Women even work ‘free’ this year until February 13. The Equal Loon Day falls on this day.

The Equal Loon Day indicates how many days a year women would have to work more compared to men to earn the same. This year is 44 days.

Children raise the salary difference
And when women have a child, the salary gap becomes even greater: it is 47 percent that women earn less. If at least one child is younger than six years old, the difference is an incredible 53 percent.

There are several reasons for the pay gap between men and ie the unequal payment. “The same work must be paid immediately, but in the rarest cases a few works in the same profession,” says Sophie Achleitner, economist at the Momentum Institute.

“Women’s professionals” worse
Professions in which women mainly work are poorly paid on average. Among them are sellers or working in the office. So do women just have to change their jobs? Unfortunately it is not that simple, says the momentum institute.

Because even when women work as managers, they earn less than men. On the executive floors of the country, women still get about a quarter less than their male colleagues.
