US President Donald Trump waved again with his customs hammer. It threatens the EU with rates of 200 percent on wine and champagne if the European Union does not abolish its announced allowances to whiskey – and collapses on an error.
That would hit France and his “Buddy” Emmanuel Macron. Alcoholics from other European countries would also be affected. The EU had only announced on Wednesday immediately after American special rates have come into effect at steel and aluminum imports.
The European rates would influence American goods from 26 billion euros and products from boats to bourbon whiskey to motorcycles.
Trump’s announcement put the American exchanges under pressure on Thursday before the start of the trade. In a mention in his online network Truth Social, Trump mainly attracted French products. The EU rates should be “immediately” withdrawn, he demanded.
He accused the EU of being a “hostile” tax and customs authority. The state of the state was only established to harm the United States, he announced his followers.
