Lufthansa subsidiary Brussels Airlines cancels almost 700 flights in July and August. In this way, the staff must be relieved, the Belgian airline announced on Tuesday. Accordingly, 372 flights will be canceled this month and the next 303 flights.
The company said these “optimizations” should give crew members “a better work-life balance.” The airline had negotiated better working conditions with unions after a strike by its workers on Monday. During the work stoppage from 23 to 25 June, about 300 connections and therefore 60 percent of all flights were cancelled.
As many airlines in Europe are cutting jobs during the corona pandemic, they are now complaining about staff shortages. Airlines and airports are facing a “turbulent summer”, explains Brussels Airlines.
